“ Every year we celebrate my BFF's birthday in a new town and a different eating establishment This past birthday was no different as we flew and drove to Taste, in Plymouth CA, in Amador County.. Here is my story: Not sure what other eating establishment they are in the area but Taste was certainly the right choice. Why? Because the food was excellent, the service was even better and the chef paid a visit to our table of 6. You will need reservations or you may end up waiting. Dining at the small bar is a real IF. Their menu is pre fixe with a couple selection and choices for your appetizer, entree and dessert. So, make your reservation and go dine there if you're in the area. Note Plymouth is about an hour's drive east from Sacramento. Oh, with a small corkage fee, you can bring you own bottle of wine(s), afterall you are in wine country ”
“ You know you are in for a great meal when the bread evokes an internal response of "Fuuu..that's good'. From start to finish everything was yummy. Beet "salad" was visually appealing but my initial reaction was "that's it?". Then I remembered I am at Taste and not there for massive portions. I got over myself quickly and really enjoyed everything I had. Entree was Impossible meatballs and I was expecting that it would be just the token vegetarian item on the menu but it was actually quite good. Dessert was funny as I had to use the restroom so when my wife asked what I wanted I just rattled something off from the dessert menu without thinking it through. Coming back out it was there waiting for me. Which bring me to my next item... service Our server was super prompt. Like, almost too efficient. It was a busy Saturday night so I imagine there were a trillion things to do and I didn't feel rushed, but once the words were out of our mouths about what we wanted, our server was off like a rocket! If you are even remotely an indecisive person like me, then there was not a second to change your mind. In the end though, I preferred this over the chatty fellow that our neighbors had next to us. Nothing wrong at will that, but I am not always feeling the most social. Really good experience and a nice, short drive from Sacramento. ”
“ Had lunch this afternoon. Service was outstanding. Food was similarly fabulous. Have the cigar appetizer because you have to. All of the entrees are classy. I personally had the Confit Pasta. Would order again. ”
“ Came for a wedding celebration. Nestled in the wine country in Plymouth, CA, this place is a gem. Professional staff, artistic and Michelin quality food, at a premium price. Nothing we tried was bad. Everything on the menu was probably the highest quality I've eaten in a long time. They have a 3 and 5 course option at $73 and $93 respectively. I tried duck, hangar steak, raw scallops, caramel and chocolate dessert, and a fancy drink. Steak was cooked exactly how I like requested, rare and purple. Best flavor I've had since Argentina. The raw scallops are something to write home about. And the duck was prepared like a steak which takes skill. The service was top notch. Water was always full, silverware was swapped out with each course, and the servers were so polite. ”
“ First time. Ordered from the bar menu. Well ordered the hamburger. It had mushrooms and a jam in it. Surprisingly, it was a really good combination. The fried were very well seasoned. Definitely would order this amazing hamburger again. The other people in our party ordered the cigar mushroom appetizer. They all really enjoyed that. Service was top notch too. Cute little town. Definitely recommend. ”
“ We made a reservation at Taste after a day of wine tasting to celebrate our anniversary. We did a 3 course and 5 course tasting, along with the wine pairing. The 5 course tasting has slightly reduced portions and allows you to taste more of the menu, which was well worth it. Every single dish was amazing and perfectly paired with delicious local wines. Although every dish was great, highlights include the lobster mushroom bruschetta and the filet. They were seriously two of the best dishes we've had at any fine dining establishment, even those that are hundreds of dollars more expensive. Thank you for the great experience. We will be back! ”
“ It has been several years since I have had the food from Taste - the last of which being during Covid and the lockdown. While out in the area for a wine festival, my friends and I made our way to Taste for a bite to eat afterwards. We did not have a reservation and actually wanted to sit in the bar area to enjoy the bar menu. I am so glad that I gave Taste another opportunity because the experience was entirely different than my last. The food was tremendous and the service was on point. Everything we shared was delicious but I thoroughly enjoyed the burger and the steak tartare. Definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in the Plymouth area. ”
“ Little Gem of a restaurant with delightful dishes that will dazzle any palate. The salad was refreshing, mushroom cigars yum, steak cooked perfectly medium, the seafood, lobster was fresh and not overdone. We had a great time here, service was good too. What a great spot for dates or friends day out. ”
“ This remains one of my absolute favorite restaurants in California. It has consistent quality, exceptional service, and always a casual yet upscale flair. It would easily compete with any Bay Area or LA restaurant and, frankly, in my humble opinion, deserves a Michelin star. I came here for a milestone birthday, and it was perfection, as always. The waiter remembered us from before, and we had a delightful conversation about our favorite SF restaurants. The place was packed to capacity, servers were scurrying around, yet polished and on top of it. I had a Purple Dream Margarita cocktail to start. A bit sweet with coconut milk and triple sec, it was beautiful to look at... and the only new picture I include now. My hubby had a Bobo sour, which I tried, and it was delicious! This time, I decided to try entirely different things from my usual picks off the five course menu. I wasn't disappointed. First, I had the corn soup, which was a knockout, so smooth, creamy, and flavorful. I didn't hold high hopes for a corn soup, yet they surprisingly raised it to new heights. From there, I went on to have the pork schnitzel. Bars of crusted pork, it was good, yet I thought the meat was a bit on the dry side. The next course was a tuna, in small rounds on a bed of corn and other accompaniments, which was absolutely delightful. The tuna was the best I ever had. So good. The next course was the scallops, which was very good but with a strange combination of peppers and other items that almost overpowered the scallops, yet it didn't. I was, again, pleasantly surprised. It always amazes me the quality of the menu items and the creativity involved. Some people reviewing this place criticize the size of the portions given here. Well, in my view, as a big eater, if you leave here hungry or find the portions small for the price, then skip this and go to Applebee's. It's cheaper. To wash it down, I had a glass of sparkling rose, which I found to be just OK, a bit sweet for me. For dessert, I chose the Summer 'Cobbler' with fresh berries, vanilla ice cream, and a cookie. It was very refreshing. They discreetly placed a small chocolate bar with a "happy birthday" on the plate. No fanfare, big production of singing waiters disturbing everyone else, or giant sombreros and guitars... so nice instead. Taste... excellent dining experience! You'll see us again. ”
“ Outstanding food & service , a bit on fine dining side but not as pretentious. Matt was our server , suggested our wines & what he enjoyed on the menu. The restaurant is in downtown Plymouth very quaint area but absolutely charming . The suggestion was made by Holger who works at Rancho Victoria & we will be attending the tasting at TASTE on the 14th July. So excited ! The food here is on point delicious . Great place to go for lunch or dinner . Reservations are recommended. ”
